Is this the best time to buy a car?

Are we moving into a buyers market going forward? Rates will definitely go down with the fed bringing them now to near zero.

Also nobody wants to leave their house except to shop essentials, so forget going to the dealership. Will dealers get deperate to move inventory and offer more deals than before? Will the manufacturers increase incentives and lower rates to stimulate sales ?

Will a new car deal be more favorable than used?

I will pay off my car next month, it’s tempting. However with the threat of recession looming the last thing I want is to lose a reliable paid off car and get a new car loan.

What is your opinion on all of this Oppo?

Ummm.....I’m seriously debating swapping the Tacoma straight for a full size.

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventorylisting/viewDetailsFilterViewInventoryListing.action?zip=80125&maxPrice=29000&maxMileage=75000&cabins=CREW&showNegotiable=true&sourceContext=carGurusHomePageModel&distance=25&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity2=c29270&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity=c23841#listing=264989058

No payment though. Maybe get some money back since the Tacoma has crazy high resale value.

I kind of assumed it would be.  But I’m surprised I haven’t seen an 0% deals as of yet.  I don’t need a new car, but I really am quite tired of my current one. I am hoping as you said there will be some incentives for people to spend.  Problem is, high on my list are cars that they don’t really need to incentivize, like the Accord or GTI.

I would think in a recession a Tacoma would be worth its weight in gold

I’m getting serious about a Cruze replacement so I’m keeping my eyes open. I think in general, though, it depends on your economic situation.

If you’re in a secure place financially I definitely think it could be a great time. I was debating looking at cars as it is, and the interest rate cut may be the tipping point to make me actually start looking. I’m in a career field where outside of me getting sick my income won’t be effected by anything but the most extreme lockdown decisions. I’m more likely to be locked in at work than to be kept away from work actually.

Someone in a more volatile position may want to wait it out before making any decisions. The interest rates aren’t going to take a big upswing right away.

I also wouldn’t be surprised to see some really big incentive and finance deals towards the end of the model year in an effort to make up  for lost sales now.

End of month. No way sales targets will be met, for all the above reasons.

I bought my leaf, I wanted 12k on my trade. They were at 11.5. I said I’ll buy the car, but if they’re at 11.5 it’s going on craigslist and you’ll have a sale in March (it was last week of February). If you want a sale in February, it’s 12k and ill do it today. We did it that day.

Presumably the market will be in even worse shape and end of the month/quarter sales quotas need hit.

We have to buy a third car really soon, so we did a little shopping on Saturday . With 2019s still sitting on the lot in some places, they are already itching to sell. We plan to get pre-qualified in the next two weeks and hit up the local dealers to see what we can shake loose.

I'm not going to stop working any time soon, the Fiesta is paid off, and I want something bigger. So yeah, I'm car shopping right now.

I guess we’ll find out. They are damn near gold as they are in Colorado.

Edit: This truck is less than 1K for what I purchased mine new. It’s 4 years old.

W hen $#!# really hits the fan. Things like new cars only gonna get cheaper since people will have lost a bunch of income and have a bunch of backed up bills.  It’ll be like 2009-2010.

I’m just fucking glad I was able to end my leases early, and downsize to one car.

Work (dealership) has been slow since Christmas, and its even WORSE now.

I’m salary + commission , but I stand to make very little in the coming months due to slow car sales, and no one bringing anything in for servicing.

Never understood Tubbs’ choice of weapon. Maybe for style points(?) , but when faced with bad guys carrying, you know, modern guns it’s not going to go well to carry a two-shot weapon.

1 - Do you NEED a car? If yes, go to 2. If no, then NO.

2 - Wait a few more weeks and assess the condition of the world and your financial position. Then proceed if you still feel like you should.
